My Latest Colorful Finds

Color is a part of my being, and it will stay with me till I die.  I am just amazed at how every thing you wear doesn’t have to be neutral or muted – there’s a color for it!  Two recent things I purchased to add to my bright palate are a pair of colorful sneakers and rainbow lenses.  Let’s check them out:

I took a look at my old sneakers and said to myself, “I need to get more colorful ones that are a reflection of me.”  I was definitely going to hold out until I found the right style and colors, and it wasn’t until I randomly walked into a Big 5 Sporting Goods store that I discovered my dream shoe, the Nike Alvord 10. It was funny because I initially went in there with my boyfriend to help him on his never-ending quest to find the perfect shoes and then I started to look at the options for women.  I was drawn to all the shoes that had pink, turquoise and/or yellow in them, and I picked up the Nike Alvord 10 in a turquoise color with orange on it.  I think I said out loud I need more color on this shoe and the employee that was nearby mentioned they did have another style I could look at.  Out came this beautiful pair of shoes with all my favorite colors and I was sold!  Sometimes you don’t know what you’re holding out for until you see it, and that was my moment.  These Nike Alvord’s were made for me and there was no hesitation to buy them!  I mean, just look at all the vibrant hues on this shoe!  I will definitely wear these forever and everywhere – I don’t think there will be another shoe that can top this!

Rainbow Lenses

Another thing I wanted to colorize is my sunglasses.  I realized that I should definitely have some rainbow sunnies, so I first saw that I could buy frames I like and replace them with rainbow lenses from Oliver Peoples (another random walk-in). It took a few months to find sunglasses I really like (sorry no Ray-Bans), and then I thought that maybe I don’t want to change out the lenses for $85, I actually like them as is.  Another random stroll into Old Navy a few weeks ago and the perfect rainbow sunglasses were found! Just $15, as soon as I put them on I knew they were the one!

It appears the coolest things I discover are usually when I’m not expecting it, which is awesome.  The question is, what is there left to color on me?  To go all the way out, my hair would be the next thing.  It’s in the style picture above, but am I ready to rock hot pink and purple strands?  Not sure yet, but it’s something to think about.

The North American Trends Vision Awards – Recap

Lights, camera, hair!  On Sunday, July 29th I had the honor of attending the North American Trends Vision Awards at LA Live.  Hosted by Wella Professionals, this was an event for North American top stylists to compete for awards in colors and cuts in three categories: color, student, and young talent. I have never been to a hair awards show nor LA Live, so this was an exciting event to attend and see how people in the hair industry get down!

As soon as I waked foot onto the event deck of LA Live, I was impressed with how stylish everyone was!  There were so many colorful looks I felt right at home with my print dress and The Man in the Hot Pink Suit on my arm.  There were live interactive installations of hair stylists working on model’s hair, a photo booth, food catered by Wolfgang Puck and stage set for amazing styles to walk the runway. Teams from Vidal Sassoon, P&G, Sebastian, Clairol, Wella and Nioxin were on the scene creating their color dream.

With competitors from the US, Puerto Rico and Canada, it was great to see such amazing color, cuts and futuristic costumes worn by the hair models.  They all showcased their incredible talents and the gold  winners are now on their way to represent the USA at the INTERNATIONAL TREND VISION AWARDS. This year’s celebration will be hosted Madrid, Spain on October 28th, 2012.  Overall, the whole experience was quite a show and really got me excited to attend future hair events as this one has really set the bar!

If you weren’t in attendance, the entire show is available via webcast for you to see: http://www.salonprofessionalinteractive.com/#
