Hanging out at the JazzReggae Fest - Dress from Crossroads Trading Co.

Hanging out at the JazzReggae Fest in bright colors – Dress: Crossroads Trading Co., steel drum earrings, Sandals: Sears

The 28th Annual JazzReggae Festival took place this past Memorial Day weekend, May 25th & 26th.  A musical mash-up of jazz, R&B, soul and reggae takes over Intramural Field at UCLA and allows you to relax, smile and breathe easy.  I was able to attend for the first time ever on Memorial Day and reggae was the theme.  The musical lineup for the warm day included Kevin Lyttle, Black Uhuru, Gramps Morgan, Fortunate Youth, Sister Carol, and Ky-Mani Marley.  Each performer brought their own flavor and had the crowd winding from side to side and feeling the Caribbean vibe.

I was also excited to eat some Jamaican food, discover new fashions/brands from various vendors and check out the live art.  It was definitely a cultural experience where the fusion of “One Love” was truly felt.  As I entered the field, the first thing I wanted to do is check out the vendors to scope out brands to put on your radar.  Endless Couture creates hand painted and hand made accessories for the stylish diva.  From palm tree earrings to a colorful piece of art work dangling from your ear, no two looks are the same and you will definitely stand out wherever you go.  B Lovely had unique braided sandals made in Guatemala.  I actually bought a pair and will share a blog post on them soon!

I had scrumptious patties from Patties Express, an oxtail entree (oxtail, rice & peas, plantain and cabbage) from Irie Choice Caribbean Cuisine, and a delicious Green Island smoothie from Fusion King.  I was impressed with the fact that the JazzReggae Fest incorporated sustainable practices into the event by having a free water refill station by Event Water, the Energy Playground by Global Inheritance where I climbed a hamster wheel to power a snow cone machine (A mini-workout with a free snow cone at the end) and zero-waste.

As I was partaking in all these festivities, there was a mission at hand that I had to complete – find the most colorful and stylish ladies at the festival. They definitely did not disappoint and my radar was on 360 degrees. See my selections below in the slideshow!

Overall, this was an awesome event to attend and now I know what festival to attend to see a field of bright colors! Thanks to everyone who brought bright hues to keep all of us in a good mood!

Cheers,
