The LA Art Show Modern & Contemporary and the LA Fine Art Show is the biggest art show on the west coast.  I had the honor of attending the Opening Premiere Party on January 13th where I was amazed by the work, intrigued with the artists and excited for the mega crowd!

Benefitting the Art of Elysium and J. Paul Getty Museum’s Department of Education, the bustling event had guests admiring more than 200,000 square feet of paintings, sculptures, installations from 120 galleries.  I have never seen so much variety of art in one place and I wish I could devote a wing of my home to it! More than $1.5 million worth of artwork was sold that evening and the artists couldn’t have been happier.

The opening ceremony was hosted by actor David Arquette and featured several exclusive performances including the unveiling ceremony for the 7,000 square foot China Pavilion, a Chinese puppet show and Three Weeks in January, a silent but moving performance piece about violence against women by Suzanne Lacy.

For the occasion, I opted for a colorful body-hugging blue and white zig-zagged dress by Arden B., accentuated by pearls and a pair of yellow heels to add a pop. My guest for the evening was The Man in the Hot Pink Suit who perfectly complemented me with his dazzling magenta three-piece by Moods of Norway. Standing out amongst so many in basic black, we were a walking, talking work of art unto ourselves. Touring the exhibits sipping on Barefoot bubbly and munching on gracious bites, we mingled and mixed it up with all kinds of friendly people, shooting group pictures and exchanging cards throughout the night. We even had artists requesting photos of us with their pieces or to stay and be a part of their entire installation! Artists and galleries that caught my eye included the iconic skulls of Damien Hirst at the Paul Stolper Gallery, the Brooke with Beachball, a lifelike sculpture of a female swimmer by Carole Feuerman and Infinite Space by Lori Hyland, a huge shimmering steel leaf creation on canvas. So many more impressed me with bold colors, visions and skills.

All together, it was a fabulous night of art and socializing in LA. We felt so much at home in this stimulating and creative scene that we didn’t want to leave when it was all over! Luckily the extravaganza ran throughout the weekend, giving us plenty of time to experience all the diverse, cutting-edge works in this year’s very successful show.
